Search Your Next Job Online and Offline

If you are looking for a job or considering a change of career, you need to find more than one way of finding job in today's technology driven world that is going through an economic downtrend. You certainly need to maximize your chances of getting job by knowing more about the ways that present day jobseekers are employing for finding jobs. Simply put, you can no more depend upon just continuing with the 'situation vacant' ads.
Online Job Search Websites
If you go online, you'll find a large variety of websites, all designed to help you find job listings. Many of those sites allow you to post your resume free of charge, but there are others which charge you for uploading your resume. The kind of site you may use for getting a job will most likely be decided by the field you are working in, and the level at which you want to work now.
How Are People Looking for Jobs?
It is estimated that, these days, ten percent of people find their next job through the Internet. The reasons for that could be that they scan job search websites of the kind of Craigslist.com and Monster.com, or they found an opening on the company's website. Though that percentage is high, the fact remains that ninety percent of people fail to find jobs using the net. That means people to find additional ways of finding jobs.
A majority of job seekers looking for jobs in the mid-range are spending half of their time looking for jobs online and mailing their applications. Now, that's not a bad proposition, but the problem is that frequently job search websites don't contain the latest available jobs, and many of the listed jobs you may apply for might have already been filled. Certainly, there are more efficient ways of utilizing your time by putting a slightly more effort on your part in your job searches.
What Are the Other Ways to Finding Jobs?
Apart from making use of job search websites, you should also spend time networking with people who can be helpful in finding you a job. That's not a difficult thing to do, with social networking sites like LinkedIn and Facebook to help you out. Of course, it demands more of your time and effort, but you'll appreciate that the quality of job openings that you come to know of this way is most often much better than what you get informed through job search websites.
How to increase your chances?
Are you aware that about eighty percent of employers would do a search for you while they are processing applications received for any job? That's because they find it a convenient way of ignoring people with any clear issues. That means it is time that you looked through your personal Google results. Simply, Google your own name and view the results! If you observe plenty of doubtful or unhelpful information, you need to spend time and work upon improving your online reputation before you start searching job websites.

Six Tips to Help You Find More Job Postings

Do you ever reach the point of seriously contemplating changing your job? Most often, it is caused by two factors, one when you are not happy with the work environments, or if the position you are occupying doesn't suit your personality.
A couple of years ago, I worked for a company that had the motto of keeping their clients pleased. Without being critical of their motto, I realized that it was being detrimental to my health. I was not hardened to working under pressure created by tight deadlines. I wasn't accustomed to handling large workloads. People around me were as busy, but seemed to manage their affairs better. I feel my present work environments suit me better. You may like to know how I got there. Here are a few steps you'll find helpful in reinventing your job search.
1. Hold on to your present job while searching for a new job, unless you can't do for medical reasons. You should understand that finding a new job is easier when you are employed. One reason for that is that you are in the midst of people who may be aware of new job postings. You can't overlook the fact that people at your workplace form a part of your social network. You need to appreciate that if you quit your present job, you won't be meeting them anymore and you may be left on your own without many people around. This could make you quite lonely when looking for your next job.
2. Take time off your work to make a note of things you would like to change in your career and life. It may take a couple of hours or a few days to write down your description of a perfect day, including the time you spend at your workplace. Try visualizing what you would like doing a couple of years hence. Where can you see yourself doing that and who are the people around you?
3. Start recognizing those kinds of environments or people through the Internet and patronizing social networking sites. Make contact with people by calling on them or through emails. Once you have established contact with them, simply start asking them what route they took for reaching that kind of position. Think on the lines of widening your field over the next couple of years. Perhaps, you could join some course to widen your horizons. Look for people you could relate to on your subject.
4. Carry on with your research to further explore the recommended courses and actions. Enroll with a course you think beneficial. Don't think too much about that, just do it! Soon you'll realize that your priority is the job search and not your present work. Your job wouldn't look so important now and you won't get so stressed about it. You may consider looking for opportunities at work or accepting some voluntary work to enhance the skills required for your new profession.
5. Remain in touch with your network of people. Revise your social networking profile by adding your recently acquired additional skills and educational activities. Participate in discussions and keep inching towards your goal. As you begin to feel more confident, start your efforts towards finding work by talking to your network of people.
6. Every day put in some extra effort. Plan your activities for the week and make efforts to accomplish those. Earmark some minimum time for making your plan of action.

Reasons That Make Employment Agencies Tick

The most logical thing that people do after completing their education is look for a job. The first thing that job seekers do is respond to advertisements in newspapers and internet. Both media has its shortcomings. Response is slow to come, and most often they never come at all. It can be very frustrating, because, not all employers are serious about their staffing needs.
Over a period of time job applicants lose focus after they have applied to numerous companies. If you are seeking a job, you probably also know how difficult it is to write a CV every time and attending interviews after interviews. The worst part of applying directly to employers is they don't notify you if you are not selected for the job. The other disadvantages of directly applying to employers are -
  • It is time consuming and responses come in late
  • It is expensive to attend interviews if the employer is not located locally
  • It is difficult to negotiate the best salary & perks
  • It is almost impossible to contact foreign employers
  • It is not always possible to check employers' credentials
The list of reasons that discourage job seekers from applying directly is almost endless. An employment agency can save job seekers from all these troubles and do more for you to find a job. It is like approaching a one-point nodal agency for finding a job. The benefits of using an employment agency are many -
  • They keep a ready list of employers willing to recruit candidates immediately
  • You get a wide choice of employers that fit your profile
  • They help in negotiating service conditions, salary and perks
  • They help you prepare the CV and arrange interviews at short notice
  • If you are relocating abroad they can arrange travel documents
  • They can help you in finding accommodation
  • They can advice you on cultural requirements in a new environment
Not only do job seekers benefit, but also employers. The advantages to them are -
  • They don't have to advertise vacancies through expensive advertisement
  • They can recruit candidates instantly
  • Agencies guarantee a minimal period for which candidates will stay with them
  • They assist in pre-employment check including experience and credentials
  • Ensure compliance with local employment laws
  • Help locate talents on a global basis
There are hundreds of recruitment agencies, but not all of them you will find suitable. Here is how you can tell the difference between a good and bad agency.
  • Good agencies will have been operating for a long period
  • They will adhere to ethical practices and have a code of conduct
  • Their service charges will be transparent to understand
  • Their track record will be impeccable and verifiable
  • They will have an impressive client list
  • They will have a global presence covering multiple industry types
Before you patronize one or the other agency, you must request an interview with one of their counselors. It will help you to establish a relationship with them. It will benefit you in the long run.

Comcast Internet Essentials Program - A Possible Solution To Help Bridge The US Digital Divide

In collaboration with the National School Lunch Program, Comcast is attempting to facilitate understanding about the importance of the internet by offering it at a deeply discounted rate to families in low-income situations throughout the U.S, starting with Chicago. This is, simply put, a brilliant move not only to help the economically disenfranchised, but also to bolster a floundering economy that is trying to transition from an industrial marketplace to an information and service-based market place.
Called "Internet Essentials", the program will offer Comcast's Xfinity Economy internet service with download speeds of 1.5 Mbps for $9.95 per month and includes a promise of no price increase and fees, along with a voucher that entitles eligible families to purchase a computer for less than $150.
The Internet Essentials idea was formed after the discovery that there are 3 major barriers to widespread broadband adoption: the cost of monthly internet service, a lack of understanding about how to use the internet and the cost of a computer.
There also appears to be a perception among some that the internet is not essential to everyday life. But national research has shown that up to 3,000 new jobs can be created with just a one percent increase in the adoption of broadband internet. However, just 45% of families with annual household incomes of less than $30,000 have internet at home.
Besides the obvious advantages to these students in educational arenas now, and the national and global marketplace later, there are several reasons why widespread adoption of broadband is an important concept. For starters, there is a definite transition our society is making toward an internet-centered playing field. We communicate, socialize, gather and disseminate news, and make all kinds of decisions based upon information we exchange on the internet.
The web is becoming a strategic tool for colleges to reach out to students who otherwise wouldn't be able to attend their school. We exchange money and goods, invest funds, and pay bills over the internet. We utilize cloud service personally and professionally to store vast amounts of data and images.
Marketing will never be the same now that the worldwide web is a major force for companies to reach out to potential customers. As mentioned previously we are transitioning from a manufacturing society to an economy that exchanges innovations, services and information. Make no mistake about it - the transition will continue as developing countries get better at filling the worldwide demand for manufactured goods, and at a much cheaper rate than the United States is able to.
In short, the internet is the greatest technological advancement of our time, and if our society is to succeed in its impending transition, we must equip all of our citizens to be able to exchange information digitally. And it begins by equipping our children to be able to navigate the internet and learn how to benefit from the vast opportunities available. This particular move made by Comcast, and surely to follow by other internet providers, is a reminder to all of us that becoming technically savvy is an important move both individually and corporately.
"Having access to high-speed Internet service allows children to do schoolwork, adults to find jobs and grow the city's economy, and families to learn and explore together," said Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel. The mayor went on to elaborate on how the Internet Essentials program is a great way for city government and the business community to provide needed solutions to the problems facing the economically disenfranchised.
In addition to discounted internet access and computer voucher, eligible families will also receive computer protection via Norton's Security Suite and 90 minutes of digital literacy training to assist them with getting the most out of the internet for schoolwork and employment search purposes.
Families who qualify must call 1-855-8-INTERNET in order to request an application to be mailed to them. In addition to a completed application, families must also attach lunch program documents from their child's school. They will then be notified by mail regarding their application's status in seven to ten days.
Comcast is also putting out the call to educators, community organizations and others who want to help to bring the internet to low-income families. When these individuals complete a free registration with Comcast's Partner Portal, they can access a free suite of tools and resources to help introduce the program to their communities.
Find out of Comcast is one of the high speed internet providers in your area. Broadband companies have affordable options to get everyone connected to high speed internet.
Ruth Suelemente is dedicated to helping consumers save money on their high speed internet service plan through the use of resources available on the internet.

Tips for Accounting Jobs

Are you looking for accounting jobs? Well then here are some things you need to know. It is not that jobs in accounting are scarce; it's just a matter of looking in the right place. Also it might become difficult to search for a job if you don't have a degree in this field as accounting is a field where it is very necessary to have a professional degree.
The best way to find accounting work is to keep in mind that there are mainly three ways to get these jobs, namely employment exchanges, local newspaper and of course, the internet.
Online
The first thing to do is to search for accounting employment through the internet. Nowadays there are a lot of sites which deal with different job categories and accounting is one of them. All you need to do is to log on to such a site that deals with providing employment opportunities.
Then you narrow down to your area of expertise (in this case accounting) and place and put in your keywords and press enter. In fact, the best part about the internet is that there are location specific and job specific sites to make your search easier.
Local Newspaper
The next best tip is to consult your newspaper. Vacancies for employment in accounting are most likely to be advertised in the local papers, especially if it's by a local company. These companies are not likely to advertise online. This is the reason why you need to check your local newspaper even though you might be searching online. This becomes even more important if you are looking for accounting jobs in your area.
Look for the classifieds section of these newspapers and you are bound to come up with something for accounting. Another advantage of searching for jobs through local newspapers is that you would know the "exact location" of the job. This is not found always in the case of websites.
They often tell you the place but refuse to give the address. Plus these websites put up employment information through third party employment agencies and not the primary employers. In case of newspapers, the advertisements are directly put up by the interested companies.
Head Hunter
The third tip to finding accounting jobs is through head hunters or employment agencies. They also have a more localized response as compared to the internet but also a wider base as compared to local newspapers. Plus they search jobs which are tailor made for you in accordance with your requirements and qualifications.
It is best to go with the best head hunters of your city if you want to get the best accounting job. If it is a really good exchange, then you will not need to pay them anything.
Often the companies who are in need of accountants pay these exchanges so that they do not have to deal with the painstaking and time consuming interview process. These employment exchanges serve as a bridge between the accounting professionals and the companies.
These are some of the tips that can get you the best accounting jobs.

Finding International Jobs for Better Life

Jobseekers are now wiser when it comes to finding jobs. They now seek international jobs which give them more opportunities for higher income and better life. Local job opportunities are now saturated and chances of finding jobs locally are difficult.

You need to strive hard when you want an international job. You need to plan this before it gets materialized over time. International employers are picky when it comes to skills and experience abroad; and you need a lot of preparation before they take chances on you.
Finding work from different organizations abroad may seem a difficult task to do. This can be the hardest part as you need job centers to announce job openings for you. However, it is possible to work for these international employers as they are flexible when it comes to expatriates who demonstrate special skills and experience. And these should be shown in your updated resume.
You need to decide which country you want to have an international job. This is because you need to explore the culture of the land once you get an international experience. You need to mingle with its locals and learning a specific language like English is important. This is one way to understand what is going on around you; it enables you to communicate with people. And this opens new opportunities for you especially when you meet and converse with foreign employers.
Private tutorials or classes are available to help you speak the language of foreigners. In fact, it is best that you take short courses to master your skills and enhance your experience. Employers are pleased when you exemplify these qualities and it gives you an opportunity to communicate easily with co-workers. Hence, you get accustomed to their culture and meet new friends. You may also read few relevant materials to know more about the country.
You can never land international jobs without work permits and contracts. Depending on the placement agency and the position that you are holding, approval for these documents are variable. Some contracts are renewed regularly which gives jobseekers an opportunity to apply as immigrants. But there are also few whose contracts end pretty soon.
When you find international jobs, look through your qualifications and interests. This could be areas that provide you employment. You can turn out hobbies into livelihood. You also need to prioritize where you would like to work, your remuneration package, your working hours and your expertise in certain areas. All these provide better views especially when you expect to work abroad.
eXPAT CAREERS is the premier expatriate and international job site. Search and browse for jobs abroad. Find work or recruit the ideal candidate.

Search For Jobs Online

Just because you're using the internet does not mean it's going to be easy. The internet has everything readily available, but the catch is that it's always there if you know where to look.

Google is fantastic when it comes to top of the line searches conducted, and I myself am an absolute fan of the Google search engine and their other internet services (like Google mail, Google talk, Google Chrome, etc). But no matter how fantastic Google may be, if you don't know how to do an internet job search for your job employment options, you will get little further then seeing an excellent search-engine at work to the best of its abilities.
When it comes to doing a career job search, there are job websites galore and many, articles on how to do a job search, and still there are a few simple steps one must follow in order to ensure their job hunting success.
The first step is to decide on what type of job employment you are looking for. Are you a fan of books? Maybe you would suit a job as a librarian. Do you just love learning new programs and designing software? Maybe you would suit being Software Engineer. Choices in the market are limitless; it is just the job logistics you need to finalize.
The second step is to understand what makes the job search complete and workable. Unfortunately, there are many who believe that by solely reading the classifieds they would be able to get quick results and are often disappointed with the slow progress they seem to be making. In all of that, they end up spending all their effort on very few results.
You and I both know that we live in a very modern world, and much of our daily interaction with others, our jobs, lifestyle, etc relies on none other then the internet. There are many job sites as I've said before, and you can log on to just about any one of them in order to receive job availabilities, but my advice would be to look for the ones which have resume services as they normally have some combo packages for both making your resume and opening your account. Some even have job
Remember that there is no use in putting all your eggs in one basket so to speak, and you will get the most results if you apply to more then one website that caters to the local area in which you live, or as per your job location needs.
An important thing about searching for jobs on the internet is that it never takes a holiday and is ALWAYS available to you...unless of course - true to Hollywood style - America (God save her) is going down and the rest of the world with her.
But internet or no, we've already established the need to not 'put all your eggs' in the same basket, and that includes not giving up on those oh so faithful classifieds.
All the best with your search for jobs, good luck!

3 Common Employment Law Questions Answered

Sometimes employment law can be difficult to comprehend. Here are three common work place situations and their legal ramifications.

1: DISMISSAL DUE TO ILLNESS
There are three potential areas of legal exposure:
· unfair dismissal;
· unlawful termination; and
· discrimination
From time to time an employee will have to leave your employment due to long term health issues. They may decide to resign or you may have to eventually consider dismissing them. It is beneficial to consider as many ways possible to help them back to work - dismissal should be a last resort and could be deemed unfair if not managed properly.
If continued employment is no longer achievable because there are no reasonable adjustments that can be made, it may be fair for you to dismiss them.
The Fair Work Act 2009 states that an employer must not dismiss an employee because the employee is temporarily absent from work due to illness or injury.
The Fair Work Regulation 2009 provides that it is not a "temporary absence" if the employees absence from work extends for more than 3 months, or the total absences of the employee, within a 12 month period, have been more than 3 months. The employer still requires a valid reason to dismiss the employee, even if the employee has been absent on unpaid leave for three months or over.
We suggest you ask the employee to provide medical information on his capacity for work and what support he might need to return to work.
2: EVIDENCE OF ILLNESS
You can insist on employees providing evidence that would satisfy a reasonable person that they are entitled to sick leave, for example, a medical certificate or statutory declaration. That being said there is no specific timeframe as the timeframe required is "as soon as practicable".
For this reason you should devise a written policy that stipulates that your employees provide such information within a specific timeframe. Your policy should also specify that your employees inform their manager directly of their absence (when possible), or phone their manager within a certain timeframe to explain why they cannot make it to work and when they expect to return.
3: NOTICE OF REDUNDANCY
When dismissing an employee it is necessary to give them notice. The notice commences when the employer tells the employee that they want to end the employment. If you notify them of their redundancy just before leave, the time spent on annual leave will count towards their notice period.

Employment Search Engines

A very large percent of people at some point or the other in their lives are caught up in the whirlwind of looking for employment. The internet in this case is nothing short of a boon.

It beats commuting to offices to drop of resume and meeting with headhunters who may be taking you for a ride. The internet is an extremely powerful tool which can be used by anyone for their purpose and more importantly, you don't have to pay anything.
There are many search engines for the purpose of creating a platform where job seekers and employers can interact freely. Yahoo Hot Jobs is an excellent example of this.
It is a comprehensive search engine with all the conventional controls that a job search requires. You can search through it for opportunities by either job type, company name, experience and a ton of other variations individually or all at once.
Another very good search engine would be Monster.com.
Everybody loves free stuff and Monster Jobs is absolutely free for job seekers. Again, with the regular features of a search engine you can search with any keyword.
You can look for vacancies company wise, look for jobs which require specific skills or work experience and also search with different combinations.
At the end of the day, no matter what search engine you are going through, the work needs to get done. Being unemployed is certainly not fun. You have to allocate a certain amount of your time each day to perform an effective employment search. Getting the technique right is paramount otherwise you may end up with no job or even worse, a terrible job.
